About

Scott Harvey

I'm a Ruby on Rails developer with over 15 years of experience building web applications. I live in Chiang Mai, Thailand with my wife and daughter.

What I'm building

My main project right now is Rails Pulse, an open source Rails engine for performance monitoring. It tracks response times, SQL queries, and background jobs, with opinionated defaults that tell you what's slow without requiring you to become a platform engineer. Your data stays in your own database. No external services, no API keys, no monthly bill.

I also built Language Den, an AI-powered language learning app with FSRS spaced repetition that works with any language.

How I got here

I've spent most of my career working with Ruby and Rails, building applications for companies and clients around the world. I'm drawn to tools and languages designed for developer happiness and productivity. The kind where you can focus on solving problems instead of fighting the framework.

After years of working remotely, I settled in Chiang Mai, a city that's become home to a growing community of developers and creators. It's a great place to build things.

Outside of work

A few years back I did a long bicycle tour across Europe: over 5,000 km through Spain, France, Portugal, and beyond. You can read about it on my travel blog if you're curious. These days life is a bit more settled, but I still like getting away from the screen when I can.
